Driving permit A KEF

To qualify for a Driving Permit A KEF, applicants must successfully complete the following requirements:

  1. Complete the e-learning driving training course with 80% minimum results.
  2. Complete practical training covering the tasks and vehicles relevant to their job responsibilities.
  3. Successfully pass a competency assessment demonstrating the knowledge and skills required to operate and drive within the airport operational area.

Participants must achieve a minimum score of 80% on the final test of the e-learning driving course.

To obtain authorization to drive within the restricted area, participants must also successfully pass a competency assessment with a score of 100%, conducted by an approved competency assessor.

Once the training has been completed, a competency assessment can be booked here: Book Competency Assessment.

E-learning refresher training is required every 24 months based on the original assessment date.

Course description

Driving permit A is for individuals requiring authorization to drive on aprons, service roads and adjacent areas.

Goals:

  • To know where driving is permitted with driving permit A
  • To acquire knowledge of the applicable rules and regulations at the airport
  • To be aware of drivers responsibilities when driving in the airport area
  • To have the ability to drive in the airport area in accordance with applicable rules

Completion of the e-learning course alone does not qualify participants to drive within the airport's restricted area. To obtain full driving permit A KEF, participants must pass a competency assessment with a score of 100%, conducted by an approved competency assessor. Please refer to the course structure for further details.

The e-learning course is offered in both English and Icelandic.

New procedure: A single booking link is now used for the Driving Permit A KEF, whether participants are booking only the e-learning course or the e-learning course together with a competency assessment.

A fee of ISK 2,750 is charged for the e-learning course. If a competency assessment with Isavia is required, it must be booked separately via the booking system and an additional fee of ISK 16,750 will apply.

These fees are in line with the published Pricelist 2026.
